Peak District – Winter Camp at Crookstone Knoll on Kinder Scout

This weeks mini Peak District adventure was a last minute winter wild camp at Crookstone Knoll on Kinder Scout. I spotted a nice little weather window so packed my kit and headed to Hope. I walked up via the Roman Road to Hope Cross as fast as my legs could carry me as it was a race against time. I had initially planned that I would be up at my camp spot ready for sunset but sadly time was against me during the day and I had set off a little later than I wanted to. The sun was dipping Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping above the clouds on Kinder Scout

This weeks mini adventure will officially go down as my favourite ever solo wilds camp in the glorious Peak District, all the conditions were perfect to make it a night to remember. I arrived in Edale to clear skies and as I walked up Kinder Scout the mist / cloud began to roll up the valley and over the Great Ridge. I spent a mesmerising 7-8 hours time lapsing everything I could see from cloud inversions to the moon and stars. If every wild camp in the future was exactly like this, then I would Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping – White Edge

Discreetly pitched up on White Edge As is usually the way with my shift patterns, the great weather comes when I'm at work and the rain arrives just in time for my days off. Well, it certainly feels that way at times and this week was no exception. My mate Ray and I managed to select perhaps the best day however to head out for a wild camp this week. The plan was to find a forest somewhere, pitch the tents, hang a tarp, then relax and enjoy the surroundings regardless of the weather. This was still the plan as we drove towards Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping – Grindslow Knoll on Kinder Scout

The GoPro Hero 3 shooting a sunset Time Lapse It's the school holiday's, the weather is getting better, so that means only one thing.... Convince my daughter that the best way to spend an evening is up a mountain somewhere. As it's Peak Routes, that somewhere is naturally the Peak District, The Glorious Peak District. Let me tell you folks, the UK's First National Park certainly lived up to the title of Glorious once again on this overnight trip. It took us around an hour to get up to the top of Grindslow Knoll, I didn't want Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping – Mermaid’s Pool

My daughter and I walked up on to Kinder Scout to wild camp at a spot I'd wanted to revisit for a long while... The Legendary Mermaid's Pool. I went in search of the mermaid in order to be granted eternal life, sadly she was nowhere to be seen 🙂 Amy used my trusty Wild Country Zephyros 1 and I used a Terra Nova Discovery Bivvy with a Competition Tarp. Just a quick note.. I've had a few questions about my nose injury. It was a very rock n roll accident, I was hit in the face by the clothes Read more [...]

Peak District – Limestone Way – Matlock to Castleton

Ever since my journey along the southern half of the Pennine Way (The Pennine Way – 7 Days from Edale to Thwaite – April 2013) I've been trying to get out wild camping as much as possible. I love the freedom of being able to pitch anywhere (with in reason) and enjoy my surroundings. I have been out on numerous trips since the Pennine Way but nothing with much mileage, I've just been heading out from home on my bike or parking my car in the Peak District. I've had a #MicroAdventure, I've spent Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping – Axe Edge Moor

Walking is one of my biggest passions in life, the freedom and oneness with the landscape really appeal to me. I crave solitude at times when it comes to walking, sadly in the Peak District there are very few places that you can go to get away from the crowds. Over these last few years i've made it my mission to try and explore every corner of the Peak and seek out some new areas that I haven't set foot before. As i'm from the Chesterfield area I mainly dedicated my walking time to the eastern Read more [...]
