Peak District – Winter Camp at Crookstone Knoll on Kinder Scout

This weeks mini Peak District adventure was a last minute winter wild camp at Crookstone Knoll on Kinder Scout. I spotted a nice little weather window so packed my kit and headed to Hope. I walked up via the Roman Road to Hope Cross as fast as my legs could carry me as it was a race against time. I had initially planned that I would be up at my camp spot ready for sunset but sadly time was against me during the day and I had set off a little later than I wanted to. The sun was dipping Read more [...]

Peak District – B-29 Superfortress Bomber & A Bothy

This weeks wander sees me return to a route that has become a firm favourite, it's one of those routes that I could quite happily do again and again as every time it feels different. Birchin Clough is a great place to start a walk, there are so many great options and you can sample long or short hikes from there. I set off from the car park and made my way down into the forest at the Snake Plantation in Lady Clough. I know that pine forests aren't really native to this part of the world Read more [...]

Peak District – Bleaklow

Another week and another brand new route. I decided once again to head for the Birchin Clough car park on the Snake Road, this place has fast become a firm favourite for me. The area is just simply stunning. The beautiful pine forests with Kinder Scout lurking to the south makes for great viewing. Today however, the aim wasn't Kinder, it was another peat covered favourite by the name of Bleaklow. I set off from the Birchin Clough car park at around 10am and headed over the road down into the Read more [...]

Peak District – Kinder Scout – Blackden Edge

Having looked at my Dark Peak Combi Map on http://www.shareyouradventure.com I decided I needed to fill in the last remaining space on Kinder Scout, it was the final piece in the jigsaw to make that area of the Peak District look explored. I have walked this way a handful of times in the past but it has been over a year. The last time I walked to this point was when I camped on the eastern edge of Kinder, so I thought it was high time I returned. We set off at 10am from the Birchin Clough car park Read more [...]

Peak District – Kinder Scout – Northern Edge in the Snow

I mentioned in a very recent blog post how I have a great passion for seeking out new routes in the Peak District. I really enjoy finding a spot on the map where I haven't visited and then trying to plot a nice route to get to know that area a little better. Today's route was plotted for that very reason, I have walked the Northern Edge of Kinder Scout a handful of times before but i have never approached from the Ashop Valley side. I decided it was high time that I paid it a visit so I plotted a Read more [...]
