Peak District – Monsal, Cressbrook, Tideswell & Miller’s Dale

Another week, another walk and this time there was no getting around the bad weather. We have had lots of rain in recent weeks and the forecast was for more, the MET Office said that the rain was due to be around all day in the Peak District so I decided to stay low. I plotted a quick route, got all my waterproof gear and headed for Monsal Dale. It rained all the way there but thankfully I was greeted by a great sunrise and Continue reading →

Peak Routes Podcast – Episode 10 – Monsal, Cressbrook, Tideswell & Miller’s Dale

Episode 10 of the Peak Routes Podcast is the first to be recorded using my new Zoom H1 and it features a walk starting at the Monsal Head Hotel. Firstly I wander down Monsal Dale to Cressbrook Mill, from there I head up Cressbrook Dale itself, through the National Nature Reserve up to Gibbet Rock aka Peter’s Stone. I tell a gruesome tale about Peter’s Stone while sitting at the top, I then head through Litton, down Litton Dale to Tideswell Dale. I weave my Continue reading →

Peak District – MTB & GoPro – Chatsworth Circuit

The day began with Ray and I arriving at Rowsley in the pouring rain, we met up with Andy who had brought his new Santa Cruz Bronson out to play. The route we were taking started from near Caudwell’s Mill and the first ascent of the day came straight away when we headed up the lane towards Lea Moor Wood past the Peacock pub. It was a good way to get the muscles working but it made me realise I must send my old bike Continue reading →

Peak District – Monsal Trail

The weather this summer has been terrible, that is no understatement, it really has been rubbish. I know it must be digitally programmed into our British DNA to complain about the weather but this year it really is a valid complaint. We have had the odd day here and there where it has been nice but it always seems to fall when i’m at work :-). I can’t let a little thing like the weather stop me from getting out into the Peak District though, Continue reading →

It was great to finally meet some of the people who I’ve been chatting to for the last year or so, we have all become friends while Sharing our Adventures on this fantastic website that was created by Phil Sorrel. The weekend event took place at Monsal Head but I could only make the Friday night and Saturday daytime due to other commitments. Friday Continue reading →

Peak District – Bakewell and Monsal Loop

I have just returned home from another rather impromptu walk in the glorious Peak District. This time we headed for the White Peak, Bakewell to be precise. I had been wanting to do a walk in that area for some time but the lure of the slightly more mountainous feel of the Dark Peak pulls me back every time, we only had limited time so it was the perfect choice as it’s a short ride from home. We parked the car near Bakewell Station and Continue reading →
