Peak District – Kinder Scout Wild Camp in the Luxe HexPeak

For the first outing in my new Luxe HexPeak v4a I arranged an overnight Peak District adventure with my friend Rich aka UKWildCamper on YouTube, we met up at the Rambler in Edale for a quick pre walk drink before leaving the warmth of the open fire and heading off out in to the elements. The forecast had threatened heavy rain but we had no intentions of cancelling as we both wanted to test out some new bits of kit. I wanted to test the HexPeak before my Tasmania trip and Rich wanted to test out Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping above the clouds on Kinder Scout

This weeks mini adventure will officially go down as my favourite ever solo wilds camp in the glorious Peak District, all the conditions were perfect to make it a night to remember. I arrived in Edale to clear skies and as I walked up Kinder Scout the mist / cloud began to roll up the valley and over the Great Ridge. I spent a mesmerising 7-8 hours time lapsing everything I could see from cloud inversions to the moon and stars. If every wild camp in the future was exactly like this, then I would Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping – Grindslow Knoll on Kinder Scout

The GoPro Hero 3 shooting a sunset Time Lapse It's the school holiday's, the weather is getting better, so that means only one thing.... Convince my daughter that the best way to spend an evening is up a mountain somewhere. As it's Peak Routes, that somewhere is naturally the Peak District, The Glorious Peak District. Let me tell you folks, the UK's First National Park certainly lived up to the title of Glorious once again on this overnight trip. It took us around an hour to get up to the top of Grindslow Knoll, I didn't want Read more [...]

Peak District – Kinder Scout – Jacob’s Ladder & The Official Summit

Official Summit area, the false cairn is pictured with the Official Grass mound summit in the background It's always great to return to an old favourite, walking routes along the southern edge of Kinder Scout is where I first cut my teeth with proper navigation. It is along this edge that my friends and I first set foot on this great mountain, longer ago than I care to recollect. I remember the day well, we had camped at the Field Head Campsite, the weather was absolutely terrible but we got out our map and compass and headed off on to the plateau. It was a scary experience but all went well, we had Read more [...]

Peak District – An Evening on Kinder Scout

This is a short video of an evening I spent speechless due to the stunning views from Kinder Scout, I had intended to Wild Camp in my bivvy but the heavens opened and the thunder arrived. I decided I didn't fancy being up high with thunder and lightening around so I headed off at around 1am 🙂 listen to ‘Peak District - Kinder Scout Wild Camping ’ on Audioboo(function() { var po = document.createElement("script"); po.type = "text/javascript"; po.async = true; po.src = ""; Read more [...]

Peak District – Kinder Scout – Crowden & Grindsbrook

The weather in 2012 has been a real wash out at times, especially when it comes to walking days. We've walked in everything this year, drizzle, hail, torrential rain and the odd thunder storm. Luckily however I work continental shifts which means I work 4 days and then get 4 days off. Doing this sort of shift pattern means I have those 4 days off to select which day is going to be the most suitable, thankfully I chose well this week and managed to pick a non torrential day. There was only a very Read more [...]

Peak District – Kinder Scout – Ringing Roger & Hope Cross

I'm having a great run at the moment it seems when it comes to walking weather, I had checked the advanced forecast and selected Thursday the 13th of December to have a wander this week. When the day finally arrived I still hadn't chosen where I was going to walk, I quickly checked my Dark Peak Combi Map on and had a look what gaps need filling in. I decided to go for a walk I have done before but I haven't tracked it while Social Hiking. I got all my cold weather gear ready, Read more [...]

Peak District – Castleton and Kinder Scout – Loop Walk

I've just got back from another great walk in the Peak District, once again I recorded it using ViewRanger and Social Hiking. I'm getting rather addicted to using the Social Hiking website as you may have noticed if you were following our progress along the West Highland Way, while i'm on the subject here is a quick link for you to view our WHW Map for 2011. Right, back to today's walk. I met up with Andy at Castleton at 10:00, we got kitted up and then headed off along the road past Odin Mine Read more [...]

Peak District – Edale Loop

Since we have set the dates for West Highland Way 2011, We thought we would go on a nice leisurely walk today in the Peak District with full kit. We loaded the bags with heavy items and headed off towards Edale. The loop we took started at Barber Booth and on towards Jacobs Ladder, Edale Cross, Brown Knoll, Lord's Seat, Mam Tor, Hollins Cross and then down into Edale itself. Obviously we had to make a quick stop for a traditional ale at the Old Nags Head, it would have been rude not to. We then made Read more [...]
