Peak District – B-29 Superfortress Bomber & A Bothy

This weeks wander sees me return to a route that has become a firm favourite, it's one of those routes that I could quite happily do again and again as every time it feels different. Birchin Clough is a great place to start a walk, there are so many great options and you can sample long or short hikes from there. I set off from the car park and made my way down into the forest at the Snake Plantation in Lady Clough. I know that pine forests aren't really native to this part of the world Read more [...]

Peak District – Walking – Kinder Scout Northern Edge & Sabre Jet Wreckage

A wet and windy walk along the Northern Edge of Kinder Scout from the Birchin Clough car park. We headed through the Snake Plantation and then up the Ashop Valley to pay a visit to part of the Sabre Jet Wreckage on our way up. The cloud was down to around 450metres so we enjoyed a typical misty walk along the edge of the Plateau to Fairbrook Naze. We descended via FairBrook and finished off a great day by visiting the Woodbine Cafe in Hope 🙂 listen to ‘Peak District - Kinder Scout Read more [...]

Peak District – Kinder Scout – Northern Edge

I don't usually have favourites but there is one place that I can never get out of my mind, that place is the forestry plantation in Lady Clough. I'm a sucker for a pine forest and this one in particular is one that I day dream about while at work. I know this type of forest isn't native to the area, I know some say the pine is a blot on the landscape, I just can't help falling for the serenity and the relaxing feeling down there by the river. As always we arrived at the car park at Birchin Clough Read more [...]

Peak District – Bleaklow in the Snow

It always seems that when my friend Andy and I go walking we always get rain. We don't mind though as we will walk no matter what the weather, today however the roll of bad luck had finally ended. We got the most beautiful wintery conditions with perfect blue skies, snow, ice and the hills to ourselves. We sett off from Birchin Clough at around 09:45, headed down in the Lady Clough and then up the path through the Pine Forest. We crossed over to Doctors Gate, walked along the Roman Road and then Read more [...]

Peak District – Bleaklow

Another week and another brand new route. I decided once again to head for the Birchin Clough car park on the Snake Road, this place has fast become a firm favourite for me. The area is just simply stunning. The beautiful pine forests with Kinder Scout lurking to the south makes for great viewing. Today however, the aim wasn't Kinder, it was another peat covered favourite by the name of Bleaklow. I set off from the Birchin Clough car park at around 10am and headed over the road down into the Read more [...]

Peak District – Kinder Scout – Blackden Edge

Having looked at my Dark Peak Combi Map on I decided I needed to fill in the last remaining space on Kinder Scout, it was the final piece in the jigsaw to make that area of the Peak District look explored. I have walked this way a handful of times in the past but it has been over a year. The last time I walked to this point was when I camped on the eastern edge of Kinder, so I thought it was high time I returned. We set off at 10am from the Birchin Clough car park Read more [...]
