Peak District – Lathkill Dale & Bradford Dale – Feb 2014

Waterfalls in Lathkill Dale Not every walk has to be an epic, with 25+ miles in a day or with thousands of metres of ascent. My friend Ray & I had a spare day so we decided we would go to Alport for a wander down Lathkill Dale. We picked up some food, filled a flask with coffee, grabbed my GoPro, Zoom H1, my DSLR and then headed out the door. After a short ride in the car we arrived at Alport to begin the walk, the sky was pretty overcast but the MET Office had promised some better weather later in the afternoon Read more [...]

Peak District – Walking – Alport & Win Hill

It's very rare that I walk at weekends, not because I'm alergic to the crowds but mainly due to family commitments. This weekend however everyone in the family had plans except me so I was pleased when an invite came through to my inbox. My twitter friend Martin Rye @Rye1966 from http://www.summitandvalley.com was heading out for a weekends backpacking in the Peak District with Andy Walker @akkw1803 from http://akkwalks.blogspot.co.uk. I couldn't make the whole weekend so I decided to join them both Read more [...]

Peak District – Lathkill & Bradford Dale

Lathkill Dale - Weir at SK 21455 65180 I'm always keeping a watchful eye on the weather to spot some nice walking windows, sometimes though the need to walk overtakes the importance of nice weather and you just have to head out. I'm not scared of a little rain which is a good thing as this year has offered up plenty of it. When the weather looks bad I just adjust my plans accordingly and plan a route that will keep us out of the worst of it. Today was one of those days where staying low was a good choice, a months worth of rain had been Read more [...]

Peak District – Bleaklow

Another week and another brand new route. I decided once again to head for the Birchin Clough car park on the Snake Road, this place has fast become a firm favourite for me. The area is just simply stunning. The beautiful pine forests with Kinder Scout lurking to the south makes for great viewing. Today however, the aim wasn't Kinder, it was another peat covered favourite by the name of Bleaklow. I set off from the Birchin Clough car park at around 10am and headed over the road down into the Read more [...]

Peak District – Ladybower & Alport Dale

After a relative drought when it comes to walking I decided I would head out come rain or shine today. The forecast was for high winds and also plenty of rain but I thought what the heck, I'll just go for it. A quick call to my mate Andy and the plan was set. We would park at Ladybower, Ashopton Viaduct to be precise and then head up and over towards Rowlee Pasture to Alport Dale. The weather looked reasonable as we set off from Ashopton Viaduct but I knew we were going to get blown around Read more [...]
