Peak District – Monsal Trail & The DJI Phantom 4

In this video we walk along the Monsal Trail from Bakewell to Millers Dale then back via Litton Mill and Cressbrook. I took my DJI Phantom 4 for it's first flight in the Peak District, we captured some great views of the Headstone Viaduct and even flew it though the headstone tunnel. After the flight through the dale I packed the drone away safely as the rain that had been forecasted started to arrive. We then walked down the trail to Millers Dale station for some much needed refreshments, Read more [...]

Peak District – Thirst House Cave – Bivvy Wild Camp

So, I've got a few items on a list of places and situations I'd like to wild camp in. One of my aims for 2015 was to camp up a tree, when I say camp up a tree I probably mean just sling up a hammock somewhere high up in th branches and sleep there for the night. Another item on my list was to sleep in a cave, that cave was to be Thirst House (also known as Hob Thirst's) and the time was to be tonight. My friends Ray, Jay and I headed for Chelmorton where we left the car then walked down Deep Dale Read more [...]

Peak District Walk – Monsal Dale & Ashford-in-the-Water

This videos sees us head to Monsal Dale for a nice but short circular walk of around 6 1/2 miles. We parked near the Monsal Head Inn and made our way down to the River Wye in Monsal Dale via the Headstone Viaduct. The route then took us down towards Deep Dale and eventually to ancient Packhorse Bridge at Ashford-in-the-Water. After a short stop to feed the ducks we then made our way up the hill and back around to Monsal Head. It was a short but sweet wander but ideal for a quick outing, we finished Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping – Dovedale Tarp & Bivvy

In this video I meet up with my friend Rich for an overnighter on a hill above Dovedale, a #MicroAdventure style trip. we met up at Ilam and had a great walk through Dovedale to Milldale and then went for a few beverages at the George Inn at Alstonefield while we waited for the day walking crowds to disperse. At around we 8pm we made our way back to Dovedale and found a fantastic little spot overlooking the dale itself. A great night was had and we awoke to a fantastic display of cloud and mist Read more [...]

Peak District – Eyam Moor & Wet Withens Stone Circle

In this walk we take in some of the history and sights up on Eyam Moor and the surrounding valleys. Eyam Village is a fascinating place that saw an outbreak of the bubonic plague in 1665, there is a hall and museum there which house some very interesting stories and are well worth a detour. We began by parking up on Sir William Hill road at the layby near grid reference SK 2245 7803. We then headed south towards Eyam to the first point of interest on the route, Mompesson's Well. The well or spring Read more [...]

Peak District – Chrome & Parkhouse Hill

In this video I head to Crowdecote to meet my friend Andy, we then wandered up and over Parkhouse Hill in the rain before the weather changed. It was rather windy and wild as we descended the northern route down Parkhouse but thankfully neither of us fell down the slippery limestone path. The next obstacle was Chrome Hill and as we reached the top the sun came out and it turned into a glorious afternoon. We then headed for Tor Rock and Stoop Farm before climbing up Hollins Hill and having a break Read more [...]

Peak District – Cressbrook Dale & Peter’s Stones

This week I decided to head out along a route I had walked in the past, this time armed with my DSLR to make a video of some of the great spots you pass along the way. The last time I walked this way I recorded an episode of the Peak Routes Podcast which you can also listen too if you wish.... anyway, that aside. The snow had cleared, I had all my warm clothes packed so off I went across Beeley Moor towards Monsal Dale to park up near the Monsal Head Hotel. After taking the obligatory Read more [...]

Peak District – Mountain Biking – Parsley Hay & Millers Dale

In this video I met up with my mate Andy at Parsley Hay on the High Peak Trail with my mountain bike, we had decided to follow a route he had done before that was plotted in his Garmin 800 GPS. It takes in some great locations and some nice bits of downhill too, my bike isn't 100% up to the job but Andy's Santa Cruz Bronson was more than ready. We set off from Parlsey Hay up the High Peak Trail, then took the Pennine Bridleway down in to Chee Dale. We then climbed back out of the valley and joined Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping – Monsal Dale & Fin Cop

This week my friend Ray and I decided to head out for a last minute wild camp in the Glorious Peak District. I had been day dreaming about a certain spot for weeks which would require a bit of stealth as it was a rather cheeky location. We packed our bivvys, grabbed food and headed of towards Bakewell. Whenever I choose a wild camping spot in the Peaks it's always a trade off between 2 factors, how far we want to walk and how safe and considerate is the parking place. In this case I decided that Read more [...]

Peak District – Manifold Dale & Thor’s Cave

Looking out the main entrance of Thor's Cave I went for a short wander today down Manifold Dale in the Staffordshire part of the Peak District beginning at Hulme End. The route down the Manifold Valley Trail is nice and gentle, before I knew it I had reached my destination of Thor's Cave. I had an extended lunch break in Thor's Cave while recording a time lapse so I thought i'd show you around in the video above. After visiting the cave I made my way up the hill to Wetton, then on to Wetton Hill and Ecton Hill where I narrowly avoided a Read more [...]
