Peak District – Kinder Scout Wild Camp in the Luxe HexPeak

For the first outing in my new Luxe HexPeak v4a I arranged an overnight Peak District adventure with my friend Rich aka UKWildCamper on YouTube, we met up at the Rambler in Edale for a quick pre walk drink before leaving the warmth of the open fire and heading off out in to the elements. The forecast had threatened heavy rain but we had no intentions of cancelling as we both wanted to test out some new bits of kit. I wanted to test the HexPeak before my Tasmania trip and Rich wanted to test out Read more [...]

Peak District – Winter Camp at Crookstone Knoll on Kinder Scout

This weeks mini Peak District adventure was a last minute winter wild camp at Crookstone Knoll on Kinder Scout. I spotted a nice little weather window so packed my kit and headed to Hope. I walked up via the Roman Road to Hope Cross as fast as my legs could carry me as it was a race against time. I had initially planned that I would be up at my camp spot ready for sunset but sadly time was against me during the day and I had set off a little later than I wanted to. The sun was dipping Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping above the clouds on Kinder Scout

This weeks mini adventure will officially go down as my favourite ever solo wilds camp in the glorious Peak District, all the conditions were perfect to make it a night to remember. I arrived in Edale to clear skies and as I walked up Kinder Scout the mist / cloud began to roll up the valley and over the Great Ridge. I spent a mesmerising 7-8 hours time lapsing everything I could see from cloud inversions to the moon and stars. If every wild camp in the future was exactly like this, then I would Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping – Sandy Heys on Kinder Scout

Views to the south from Sandy Heys Another week, another Wild Camp... This time we set off from Bowden Bridge near Hayfield and made our way up to Sandy Heys on Kinder Scout. We were extremely lucky with the weather and witnessed another great sunset. Sandy Heys is a very interesting spot, it has an important significance for the Aetherius Society and if you'd like to find out more about them you can head to http://www.aetherius.org. The following morning we headed along the western edge of Kinder to Kinder Low before heading Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping – Grindslow Knoll on Kinder Scout

The GoPro Hero 3 shooting a sunset Time Lapse It's the school holiday's, the weather is getting better, so that means only one thing.... Convince my daughter that the best way to spend an evening is up a mountain somewhere. As it's Peak Routes, that somewhere is naturally the Peak District, The Glorious Peak District. Let me tell you folks, the UK's First National Park certainly lived up to the title of Glorious once again on this overnight trip. It took us around an hour to get up to the top of Grindslow Knoll, I didn't want Read more [...]

Peak District – Kinder Scout – Jacob’s Ladder & The Official Summit

Official Summit area, the false cairn is pictured with the Official Grass mound summit in the background It's always great to return to an old favourite, walking routes along the southern edge of Kinder Scout is where I first cut my teeth with proper navigation. It is along this edge that my friends and I first set foot on this great mountain, longer ago than I care to recollect. I remember the day well, we had camped at the Field Head Campsite, the weather was absolutely terrible but we got out our map and compass and headed off on to the plateau. It was a scary experience but all went well, we had Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping – Mermaid’s Pool

My daughter and I walked up on to Kinder Scout to wild camp at a spot I'd wanted to revisit for a long while... The Legendary Mermaid's Pool. I went in search of the mermaid in order to be granted eternal life, sadly she was nowhere to be seen 🙂 Amy used my trusty Wild Country Zephyros 1 and I used a Terra Nova Discovery Bivvy with a Competition Tarp. Just a quick note.. I've had a few questions about my nose injury. It was a very rock n roll accident, I was hit in the face by the clothes Read more [...]

Peak District – An Evening on Kinder Scout

This is a short video of an evening I spent speechless due to the stunning views from Kinder Scout, I had intended to Wild Camp in my bivvy but the heavens opened and the thunder arrived. I decided I didn't fancy being up high with thunder and lightening around so I headed off at around 1am 🙂 listen to ‘Peak District - Kinder Scout Wild Camping ’ on Audioboo(function() { var po = document.createElement("script"); po.type = "text/javascript"; po.async = true; po.src = "http://d15mj6e6qmt1na.cloudfront.net/assets/embed.js"; Read more [...]
