Peak District – Wild Camping above the clouds on Kinder Scout

This weeks mini adventure will officially go down as my favourite ever solo wilds camp in the glorious Peak District, all the conditions were perfect to make it a night to remember. I arrived in Edale to clear skies and as I walked up Kinder Scout the mist / cloud began to roll up the valley and over the Great Ridge. I spent a mesmerising 7-8 hours time lapsing everything I could see from cloud inversions to the moon and stars. If every wild camp in the future was exactly like this, then I would Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping – Grindslow Knoll on Kinder Scout

The GoPro Hero 3 shooting a sunset Time Lapse It's the school holiday's, the weather is getting better, so that means only one thing.... Convince my daughter that the best way to spend an evening is up a mountain somewhere. As it's Peak Routes, that somewhere is naturally the Peak District, The Glorious Peak District. Let me tell you folks, the UK's First National Park certainly lived up to the title of Glorious once again on this overnight trip. It took us around an hour to get up to the top of Grindslow Knoll, I didn't want Read more [...]

The Pennine Way – 7 Days from Edale to Thwaite

This is an HD video of my Pennine Way adventure in April 2013, we walked for 7 Days from Edale to Thwaite and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I uploaded a lot of this footage in daily updates but this is the full HD version. Thank you to everyone who followed at the time and I hope to venture back again soon to tick of the northern half of this great trail. In the next few weeks I will be updating the existing Pennine Way posts with images from my DSLR. I will also be doing a summary Read more [...]

Peak District – Wild Camping – Edale Skyline Route

There are some times when just one day out on the hills just isn't enough.. well.. I suppose one day is never enough really when I come to think about it. I have been doing lots of day walks in the Peak District lately so I thought it was about time that I chucked my tent in my bag and headed out for 2 days. As luck would have it I had 2 days spare so I consulted my mate Andy and a plan was set. Andy decided that he could join me for 2 days of walking and I would Wild Camp alone inbetween as Read more [...]

Peak District – Edale Skyline Route

This is another one of those fantastic Peak District routes that I've been wanting to do for some time now, I had seen it on the map and while out walking I could see there was a clear route all the way around. I decided to name it affectionately after the “Ring of Steel” in the Mamores in Scotland.. It is the Peak District’s very own “Ring of Mild Steel”. I set off this morning from home and headed for Hope, I parked the car and got myself suited, booted and ViewRanger running Read more [...]

Peak District – Castleton and Kinder Scout – Loop Walk

I've just got back from another great walk in the Peak District, once again I recorded it using ViewRanger and Social Hiking. I'm getting rather addicted to using the Social Hiking website as you may have noticed if you were following our progress along the West Highland Way, while i'm on the subject here is a quick link for you to view our WHW Map for 2011. Right, back to today's walk. I met up with Andy at Castleton at 10:00, we got kitted up and then headed off along the road past Odin Mine Read more [...]

Peak District – Edale Loop

Since we have set the dates for West Highland Way 2011, We thought we would go on a nice leisurely walk today in the Peak District with full kit. We loaded the bags with heavy items and headed off towards Edale. The loop we took started at Barber Booth and on towards Jacobs Ladder, Edale Cross, Brown Knoll, Lord's Seat, Mam Tor, Hollins Cross and then down into Edale itself. Obviously we had to make a quick stop for a traditional ale at the Old Nags Head, it would have been rude not to. We then made Read more [...]

Peak District – Kinder Scout – Wild Camping

Wild Camping in the Peak District is something I haven't done for a while, I suppose as its so close to home its easy enough to cover lots of distance on a day walk and still be home in time for tea. I've walked up Kinder Scout more times than I can remember but decided to go for a wander and see where I ended up. I started by getting the train from Chesterfield via Sheffield to Edale, something i've never done before so enjoyed the novelty of it. The first part of my journey took me up Read more [...]

Kinder Scout – Jacob’s Ladder & Grindsbrook Clough

I went for another walk up Kinder Scout today, thankfully its beginning to become a regular occurrence again. I decided to differ from my regular route from Hayfield and revisit and old route Stevo and I used to take. The route begins in Edale and head west along the slopes of Kinder then down to Upper Booth, next point of call is Jacob's Ladder which is the only major accent and it leads you up on to the plateau. I took the image above at the bottom of Jacob's Ladder, The River Noe gains Read more [...]

Peak District – Kinder Scout – Winter walk with Amy

Amy and I decided to go out for a walk today, we have a fantastic covering of snow here in Derbyshire and the weather was perfect. We headed off towards Edale at about 10am and made it there in reasonable time considering the roads were pretty bad. We narrowly avoided an accident near Hathersage, A transit van in front of us spun out of control and nearly hit a bus.. whoops. We parked down near the train station at Edale as it was full near The Old Nags Head Inn. We then walked back up Read more [...]
